What is the 5CP and why does it matter?
The 5CP (Five Coincident Peaks) is the mechanism PJM uses to determine your share of capacity costs. Your facility’s demand during the five highest-demand hours on the PJM grid each summer sets your Peak Load Contribution (PLC), which drives your capacity charges for the entire next year. Capacity prices have surged from ~$10,560/MW-year in 2024/2025 to a projected $120,147/MW-year for 2026/2027. Missing even one peak can cost a facility tens of thousands of dollars extra per year.
Why does PJM require specialized solutions
