What is the Allocated Quantity of Energy Withdrawn (AQEW)?

AQEW stands for Allocated Quantity of Energy Withdrawn. AQEW is the total energy withdrawn directly from the IESO grid and it does not include embedded generation or energy storage injections. The Coincident Peaks in Ontario are ranked based on AQEW, not Ontario Demand, but the Peak Demand Factor is calculated using Ontario Demand.

(Updated for 2021 Onwards) AQEW stands for Allocated Quantity of Energy Withdrawn. AQEW is the total energy withdrawn directly from the IESO grid, and it does not include embedded generation or energy storage injections. The Coincident Peaks in Ontario were ranked based on AQEW, not Ontario Demand, until 2021, when the IESO changed to use Ontario Demand values instead.

Ontario Demand = AQEW + Embedded Generation ā€“ Energy Storage Injections. Ontario Demand is the number used to determine the Peak Demand Factor for Class A facilities.

Peak days are ranked, and PDF is calculated as follows:
