Behdad BahramiCEO & Co-Founder

Behdad Bahrami is the Co-founder and CEO of Edgecom Energy. With over a decade of experience in the energy sector, Behdad previously served as the Energy Manager for one of North America’s largest plastic manufacturing facilities.

In 2016, leveraging his firsthand industry insights, Behdad founded Edgecom Energy to address inefficiencies in industrial energy management. Under his leadership, the company has developed cutting-edge tools, enabling large energy consumers to optimize consumption, reduce costs, and lower emissions. These innovations have earned Edgecom accolades such as the ABB Startup Challenge 2024, Shell’s New Energy Challenge 2024 and recognition as a CIX Top 20 Early Growth company.

Behdad’s contributions to the energy industry have been recognized with several awards, including Energy Innovator of the Year 2024 by the Association of Energy Engineers.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from McMaster University and is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP).

Mehdi ParviziCTO & Co-Founder

Mehdi Parvizi is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Edgecom Energy, a Toronto-based cleantech company pioneering AI-driven solutions for industrial energy management. He holds a Ph.D. in Power and Energy Systems from the University of Waterloo, where his research focused on frequency and voltage control in islanded microgrids. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario. His academic work has been cited extensively in the fields of microgrids, distributed energy resource planning, and data mining for energy systems.

At Edgecom Energy, Mehdi leads the development of cutting-edge technologies at the intersection of AI, the grid, and the energy transition. Under his technical leadership, Edgecom Energy won the ABB Startup Challenge 2024 and secured strategic investment from ABB Electrification Ventures.

Mehdi’s expertise spans cloud computing, AI-driven analytics, IoT integrations, energy management, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integration. He is recognized as a thought leader in the energy sector, frequently contributing insights on the application of AI in energy management and the transition to clean electricity.

Nasreddine GuerfalaEVP of Strategic Growth and Distributed Energy Resources

Nasreddine Guerfala is a professional engineer with 15 years of experience in the energy efficiency and sustainability field in North Africa, Canada, and the United States. At Edgecom Energy, Nasreddine drives NeuraCharge sales and revenue growth through strategic partnerships, market expansion, and close collaboration with the DER team. Previously, he was the Director, Energy for a district energy company in Toronto (Enwave) and Manager, Strategy and Business Development for Hydro One. Nasreddine served as Vice President Pre-Construction for SunGrid Solutions and Vice President Business Development for TruGrid, an EPC company in Solar and Battery storage in Canada and the US. Nasreddine was also the President of the Association of Energy Engineers Greater Toronto Area chapter (2022-2024).

Nasreddine holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tunis, a master of Applied Sciences from the University of Sherbrooke, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Toronto Metropolitan University. He is also a Certified Energy Manager and a Certified Measurement & Verification Professional.

Robert WeirVP of Distributed Energy Resources

Rob is an energy executive with over 20 years of experience driving innovation across Canada, the U.S., and Australia. He began his career in the natural gas sector with Union Gas and the Westcoast Energy companies, gaining a solid foundation in utility operations and commercial markets. In Australia, Rob contributed to the development of large-scale cogeneration projects during the deregulation of Victoria’s electricity market. He later moved to New York City, where he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Constellation NewEnergy, a leading electric energy retailer in the C&I space.

Rob has held executive roles in clean tech and distributed energy, including COO at Demand Power Group and President of Sunwave Gas & Power. He is currently Vice President of Distributed Energy Resources at Edgecom Energy, where he leads the market development of NeuraCharge, a cutting-edge EMS platform for Microgrids and Virtual Power Plants.

Rob holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a licensed Professional Engineer.

Ali ShansPresident, Builders and Developers Division

Ali Shans is the President of the Builders and Developers division at Edgecom Energy and also serves as President and CEO of uTrack Energy, an Edgecom affiliate company. With over a decade of experience in development, Ali brings together deep expertise in the energy and real estate sectors.

A licensed electrical engineer from McGill University, Ali began his real estate career as a Project Manager at Liberty Development. He later joined Edgecom Energy as Director of Business Development, working closely with Class A and Class B energy consumers, gaining hands-on experience in energy management.

Driven by an entrepreneurial vision, Ali founded uTrack Energy and secured a sub-metering license from the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). Under his leadership, uTrack® provides sub-metering, building energy modelling, and consulting services tailored to the needs of developers and energy users.

Saeid EsmaeiliVP of Markets

Saeid Esmaeili, PhD, leads Edgecom Energy’s innovative product roadmap, leveraging his extensive energy management and systems technology expertise. He was a visiting researcher at the Microgrid Research Lab of Aalborg University, Denmark. With a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from Queen’s University and a PhD in power system engineering from the Iran University of Science and Technology, Saeid combines his deep knowledge of energy with industry insight to deliver transformative solutions.

His research, featured in prominent publications like ScienceDirect and IEEE Transactions, explores advanced energy optimization and system efficiency:

Tanner BehrendVP of Strategic Growth

Tanner Behrend, seasoned in policy, funding, and business development, specializes in energy and sustainability. With a Bachelor of Engineering in Green Process Engineering, he blends tech expertise with environmental dedication. As the VP of Strategic Growth at Edgecom Energy, he shapes Edgecom Energy’s trajectory with his leadership, innovation, and tech solutions for sustainability. Passionate about driving positive change, he advocates for sustainability on all fronts.

Masoud BashariProgram Manager

Masoud is a Programs Manager at Edgecom Energy, where he manages the lifecycle of company operations for energy market participation, develops consulting solutions, and oversees intellectual property. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (2019), is a licensed Professional Engineer (Ontario, 2023), a Project Management Professional (2024), and an IEEE Senior Member (2024).

Previously, Masoud was Manager of Flexibility Markets at Hydro One (2025), leading business case development, planning, and design for local flexibility markets. From 2019 to 2024, he served as Vice President of Software and Technology at IEMS Solutions, directing grid-focused innovations such as predictive analytics, DERMS, DRMS, building energy management, and EV charging systems. Under his leadership, the company won the LG NOVA innovation competition. Earlier roles include Energy Solutions Developer at Concordia University (2018–2019) and Research Data Scientist at Toronto Metropolitan University (2016–2017).

Eric AsagbaProgram Manager

Eric is an experienced energy professional with expertise in deregulated energy markets, demand response, and grid optimization. He focuses on maximizing revenue through strategic energy programs, optimizing energy management, and navigating complex regulatory frameworks. With deep knowledge of market dynamics and energy trading, Eric is dedicated to driving innovation and enhancing efficiency within the energy sector.
